Moravian College Dance Company to Host 41st Annual Concert April 1-2

Bethlehem, Pa., March 23, 2016 Moravian College will host the 41st Anniversary Dance Company Concert that will feature student-choreographed pieces along with those created by faculty and guests.  The concerts will take place on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Foy Hall.

Beginning as the Moravian College Dance Club in the 1975, the dance program has provided girls each year with the opportunity to see and participate in workshops with professional dance companies for over four decades. The dancers also participate in Bethlehem schools arts days and in dance workshops on other LVAIC campuses.

People should come to the concert to expand their dance network and support the community. Our concert is not just Moravian students, but a compilation of some of the greatest influences in Lehigh Valley dance, said Melissa Rowbottom, Artistic Director.

The event will include a variety of dance genres including ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, tap, and jazz. Moravian College will host numerous guests for the event including Coral Nolan's Academy of Dance, In Motion Dance Company, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, and Repertory Dance Theatre and Tap Ties. This year there will be four student choreographers along with various guest choreographers that include Samantha Anderson, Amy Browne Smith, Mary Ann Gillen Hoffman, Dawn Ketterman-Benner, and Rebecca Moyer.

The students have been great and are working very hard. I cannot wait to see it all pay off.  We will be offering dance classes for credit for the first time in the fall, said Rowbottom. The concert is a great way to allow the dance company to celebrate new opportunities and begin making their mark at Moravian.

General admission for the event is $10. For more information, please visit the Moravian Music Department web page www.moravian.edu/music.
